Strength

Updated: May 23, 2021

A few years ago, I read an article in NASA Science about a hurricane on the planet Saturn. The article had a spiritual message for me, but not until a few weeks ago, did i begin to understand the magnitude of the revelation.

Here is a excerpt from the article:

“In 2013, NASA’s Cassini spacecraft provided scientists the first close-up, visible-light views of a behemoth hurricane swirling around Saturn's north pole.

In high-resolution pictures and video, scientists were able to see the hurricane's eye at about “1,250 miles (2,000 kilometers) wide, 20 times larger than the average hurricane eye on Earth”. Thin, bright clouds at the outer edge of the hurricane are traveling 330 mph(150 meters per second). The hurricane swirls inside a large, mysterious, six-sided weather pattern known as the hexagon”.

This hurricane swirls with tremendous power but it doesn’t drift, its contained. The force is never released or unleashed. It’s full potential is boxed in.

Now, what does a hurricane on Saturn have to do with personal revelation? Let’s take a look at a few verses:

“Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your STRENGTH.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.””

‭‭Mark‬ ‭12:29-31‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the STRENGTH that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4:10-11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The greek word used for STRENGTH in these verses is Ischus.

Ischus is the inherent ability which stresses the factuality of the ability, not necessarily the accomplishment. Not all believers are using their God given strength.

Ischus is inherent power or force.

Ischus conveys the sense of endowed power or ability. The idea is that it is the active efficacy of the might that is inherent in God, His indwelling strength. We have His strength in our possession. It’s our true ability (potential for release and inner use).

We can think of ‘ischus’ as God’s latent power in us. It is His capability to function effectively within and through us. God is able. We are also able to unleash His power through us as we love Him with all our strength.

Take some time this week to ask God how you can love and serve Him with Ischus. Are you containing this strength or releasing it?

This strength is like a hurricane. When its unleashed in true love for the Lord and others, it’s transformative.

As each of us unleash this strength, we will unify in Glory!!
