Week 2: Benefits of Meditation
Meditation has led me into encounters with the Lord.
What is the difference between experiencing God and encountering God?
“By nature, an experience is a one-way response to an action. If we say we are experiencing God, then we are implying that He is doing something for us, or showing us something. Is that awesome? YES! But…what are we doing to return the favor? An encounter, by definition, is a meeting. It is an engagement. By default, an encounter requires interaction between both parties. It can be good or adverse. An enjoyable meeting, or a battle to end all battles".
"An encounter requires more than emotion. It requires response. It is my real desire to encounter God…not just experience Him. I want to be able to have a relationship with Him. I want to meet Him. Even if He is reprimanding me, or I am asking Him the hard questions…I want to walk away knowing I have encountered Him. It is more than emotion…it is Real”.
For me, the difference lies in the fact that I experience the goodness and love of God in my life all the time (I see Him every where) but when I seek to encounter Him through meditation, I am transformed. I behold His beauty and focus on His nature (heart) in every verse. I “become” more like Him with every encounter.
As you meditate on this week’s verse (or any verse you choose), may you encounter and behold the living God and become what you behold.
“I made your Name known to them, and will continue to make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.””
John 17:26 TLV
