”Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, as my son.” So they went both of them together.”
Genesis 22:8 ESV
“So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.””
Genesis 22:14 ESV
These verses in the book of Genesis are the only place in scripture where the name of God, “Jehovah Jireh“ is mentioned.
Jireh in itself does not mean provider. It comes from the root word ra’ah which means to see, understand, to search out. Thus, Jehovah Jireh not only means God will provide but he understands, sees and searches out our needs. God provides for us in a
very intimate manner.
I am engrossed by the prophetic name given to Mount Moriah (The Lord will Provide) and the historic accounts that
have taken place at the same location where Isaac was once strapped to the rock by faith.
Other Historic events at Mount Moriah:
Solomon built the temple.
Ezra and Haggai rebuild the temple.
Jesus turned over the tables of the money changers.
David bought the threshing floor to give thanks to God for stopping the plague.
The place where Jesus was condemned to die.
Today the Temple Mount, a walled compound within the Old City of Jerusalem, is the site of two magnificent structures: the Dome of the Rock to the north and the Al-Aqsa Mosque to the south. In the southwest stands the Western Wall—a remnant of the Second Temple and the holiest site in Judaism.
This week, we’ll step upon the Mount of Moriah to experience Jehovah Jireh. Allow the Holy Spirit to open up your heart to see the Lord who provides.
